Gilad just needed portraits. His family were not the first to just want a portrait session (see Jordan), and they won’t be the last. That doesn’t mean the bar mitzvah is not a great excuse to get a lot of fantastic family portraits. I mean, everybody is all dressed up and looking sharp already, why not take portraits? So, there I was in January in Teaneck at Keter Torah, a place I have photographed numerous weddings, for Gilad’s bar mitzvah portraits. We started at home and eventually got to the shul. Like most portraits I try to incorporate aspects of the person’s life in the photos. These aren’t studio pictures we are talking about. I want the portraits to show the world what you want the world to see.
